How to create an HSBC online savings account

With the current financial situation, it is safe to know that FDIC insured banks protect your hard earned money. But finding ways to get the most of your safe-guarded cash is hard.
Many people start online savings accounts because of the high APY. I am one of those people, and it has paid nicely in the 2 years I've had this account. Here's how to create one.

  1. www.hsbcdirect.com (link provided below), and go to open an account. This should be located in the upper left-hand region of the Webpage.

  2. Step 2

On the 'Open an account page' of HSBC Direct, go to select the product that you would like to open. Choose the radio button for
online savings account. Continue on by starting application.

  3. Step 3

In the following pages, you must answer all questions to the fullest extent of your knowledge.
    The next pages respectively are:
    Tell Us About Yourself
    Confirm Your Identity
    Complete eSignature Card
    Customize Your Account
    Fund Your Account
    Done

  4. Step 4

Fund your account is the most important page in that you must choose to EITHER:
    mail your opening balance
    link an existing hsbc account
link an existing account from a different bank (bank to bank transfer)

  5. Step 5

You're pretty much done. Once your account shows your starting balance, your registration is complete.

  6. Step 6

IMPORTANT THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR ACCOUNT:
    - you can't go to a teller to deposit money
    - be sure to get an atm card as this is the only way to get your cash (other than transferring the money to another account after it has retained some interest)
    - you get better apy because less paperwork means less overhead, leading to more money for you.
