How to Tag Clothing for Consignments Sales

Throughout the year, many communities hold consignment sales for those who wish to participate. Knowing the appropriate way to prepare and tag your clothing will help you prepare for the sale in advance.

  1. Choose the articles of clothing you would like to sell. Some consignment sales accept children's clothing only, while others accept adult clothing as well. The clothing needs to be free of stains, holes or damage.

  2. Step 2

Wash and dry the clothes you plan on selling. You may do this at home or take them to a dry cleaner. The clothing also needs to be fairly wrinkle-free.

  3. Step 3

Take the wire hangers and start by placing clothing on the hangers. Sets should be safety-pinned together if you are using only one hanger, and if you use two hangers, the hangers need to be attached with a rubber band around the top.

  4. Step 4

Write the information on the index cards. You need to include your consignor number, size, gender and price.

  5. Step 5

If you are not immediately transporting items to the sale, store them in a dry area. It would be better if they were hanging up in a closet that does not smell musty or moldy.
